Jan-Arne Farstad- Partner


Jan-Arne joined STS Capital Partners as a partner in 2009, bringing with him a wealth of experience in financial services from Europe, the Caribbean, North America and Latin America. His focus over the last 10 years has been in wealth management, corporate finance and corporate development. During this period he led a large number of M&A deals across various industries and geographies, mainly working with high net worth individuals and family businesses.
 
Prior to joining STS, Jan-Arne was Managing Director at FirstCaribbean International Bank (based in Barbados), where he was in charge of wealth management and corporate development. Before moving to the Caribbean, Jan-Arne was Managing Director at UBS Wealth Management (based in London and Zurich), where he was the Global Head of their Corporate Advisory Group. In this capacity, Jan-Arne led a team of M&A and corporate finance professionals, serving UBS’s entrepreneur and high net worth clients, with teams located in London, Zurich, Paris, Madrid, Frankfurt, Singapore, Mexico City and Sao Paulo.
 
Jan-Arne was born in Norway but left for the United States to complete his university studies when he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship.  He started his career with Wells Fargo Bank, where he worked in a cross section of disciplines from risk management to relationship management in San Francisco, Mexico City and London. He then worked for the Bank of Montreal in Toronto, first in risk management, then as head of their Europe, Middle East and Africa Division based in London (UK), and finally as head of a new Emerging Market Division that he established and led. Following his positions at the Bank of Montreal, Jan-Arne again returned to London (UK) as CEO of Royal Trust Bank and later joined ABSA Bank, a South African bank (now part of Barclays) to work on the merger that created this bank and re-established ABSA’s international presence in London, Hamburg and New York.
 
Throughout his career Jan-Arne has led and participated in a large number of M&A deals ranging from French vineyards to banks. He particularly enjoys the complexities of cross border transactions. He has a strong affinity with and high regard for entrepreneurs and owners of family businesses and has dedicated much of his time to such clients. Jan-Arne splits his time between Europe and the Americas/Caribbean.
